In practice, ERP solutions are usually designed for classic mechanical engineering, i.e. series production.
This does not take into account that
- engineering services at Special Purpose Machinery Manufacture accountfor a higher proportion of the overall process than in traditional mechanical engineering.
- the Special Purpose Machinery Manufacture does not work with master BOMs, but with order BOMs and the BOM grows dynamically.
- Procurement at Special Purpose Machinery Manufacture mustwork closely with the design department and sometimes procures components in advance (long lead time items).
In the next graphic, we have outlined the problems that Special Purpose Machinery Manufacture faces when using an ERP solution for series production.
The BOM at Special Purpose Machinery Manufacture is set up anew for each project, as the requirements are always different, always new.
The BOM that has been processed in the PDM system goes through various revisions, as subsequent changes are the rule rather than the exception.
And this is where the problem lies:
If the master BOM used by series manufacturers is transferred to an order BOM, the order BOM loses the link to the master BOM. If there are subsequent changes to the master BOM, the order BOM will not be affected.
erp4cad works differently:
Thanks to erp4cad's project overview bill of materials, the order bill of materials can be
- grow dynamically,
- can be flexibly adapted and
- can be used by different departments at the same time.
The project overview list contains information and data that is important for both engineering (CAD) and purchasing (ERP).
erp4cad has been developed to meet the needs of special machine construction and therefore optimally maps the value creation processes.
